Student Users:

Instructions for Setting up a Proxy User

NMSU Students may provide “proxy access” to parents/guardians/spouses as desired by going online at my.nmsu.edu and clicking on the Student tab. Students can choose what information their proxies may have access to.  For example, students may wish their proxy to be able to view their NMSU Financial Aid history and status, Registration, Student Account or Student Records.  By setting up proxy access, the student permits their proxy to view such information online, and allows their proxy to have discussions about such information with University staff members.

Please note: In order for a proxy to make a payment on a student account, the proxy will need to be established by the student, following this separate set of instructions.

  1. Log into myNMSU with NMSU User Name and Password.
  2. Click on the Student Tab at the top of the screen.
  3. Click on the Student Proxy Management link, located under Student Account and Payment Information.
  4. Click on Add Proxy.
  5. Type in the required information for the proxy.  This is not the student's name or email address.  Include the proxy's first & last name, as well as the proxy's valid email address.  The email address entered here will allow the proxy to receive communications necessary to finalize the setup of their account access.
    1. Relationship – (Required) Select myNMSU PROXY from the drop-down menu.
    2. Description – (Optional) Enter a personal note about the proxy (spouse, parent, etc.).
    3. Start Date – (Required) Defaults to today’s date.
    4. Stop Date – (Required) Defaults to 5 years from now.
Note: Start/Stop Dates allow you the ability to control the duration your proxy is able to view your information. The Stop Date can be as far into the future as you would like it to be, however, access is deactivated when you are no longer with NMSU.
  6. As you proceed to fill in the data fields, Authorizations will become available at the bottom of the screen.
    1. Check the boxes for the information that you would like to share with your proxy.
    2. Please note, Copy Authorization can be used only after you set up your first proxy.  This function is in case the student decides to assign more than one proxy.
  7. Once the required fields are filled, click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of the screen.  You should see a message state "A new proxy has been successfully added".
  8. You should be directed to a new screen that shows your new proxy.
    1. Your proxy will initially show up as INACTIVE, until they complete the steps on their end to finalize the process.
    2. PLEASE NOTE: While you are completing the above steps, your proxy will be receiving emails instructing them on the steps needed to finalize their access.  Thus, it is important that you complete all steps in sequence at one time, in order to ensure that your proxy doesn’t experience any issues with gaining access.
  9. You have now completed the set up for your proxy to access your selected student records. Your proxy will need to take steps on their side of things, in order to activate the process.  These steps can be found here.
  10. To confirm emails have been sent, you can check the communications tab on your proxy account. This will allow you to view activity and emails related to your proxy profile.
    1. Sign in to my.nmsu.edu using your NMSU credentials.
    2. Click on the STUDENT tab at the top of the screen.
    3. Click on the STUDENT PROXY MANAGEMENT bullet point, towards the bottom of the page.
    4. You should see your Proxy's name.  Click on the pencil icon under their name.
    5. At the top of the page, you should see 3 tabs:
      1. PROXY INFORMATION - This tab shows the different records that the student has allowed their proxy to view.
      2. HISTORY - This tab shows the dates & times of when a proxy was viewing student records, as well as what pages the proxy was viewing.
      3. COMMUNICATION - This tab shows a log of all the emails the proxy has received.
